keepsake is built around one idea: your memories belong to you, and they stay with you.
Where your data lives
Everything you write is stored in a local database file on this computer, inside the app's own data folder. Photos and voice notes you add are saved as ordinary files in that same folder. Nothing is uploaded anywhere.
What we don't do
- No accounts, and no servers — the app works entirely offline.
- No analytics, tracking, or telemetry of any kind.
- No third-party services or SDKs receive your data.
- The app does not transmit your journal content over the network, ever.
Microphone
If you record a voice note, your operating system will ask once for permission to use the microphone. Recordings are saved only to this computer, like everything else.
Locking the app
You can set an optional passphrase that's asked for when the app opens. This is a privacy gate for the app, not encryption: the app does not encrypt the files on disk itself. For encryption at rest, use your operating system's built-in disk encryption (FileVault on Mac, BitLocker on Windows).
Backups and sync
Because your journal is a normal folder on your computer, your own backups (like Time Machine or system backup tools) can include it. The app itself does not sync your data anywhere. If a sync feature is ever added, it will be strictly opt-in and clearly explained — it will never be turned on for you.
Deleting your data
Your journal is yours to delete at any time. Settings includes a delete-all option that removes every entry and all media from this computer, and you can also delete the app's data folder yourself to remove everything.
